OMS designs and manufactures a range of innovative products and tools that are used in pipe manufacturing, welding and testing in order to measure almost any dimensional aspect of a pipe or other tubular structure. Some of these products are available to purchase, others can be leased or are provided only as part of a commissioning or service contract with OMS.

Handheld manual devices are available for checking the dimensions and ovality of pipes, post-production. In addition, purchasers of oil and gas pipes can use these tools to check whether their delivered pipes are within the manufacturer’s specification.

OMS offers specialist tools to assist welding preparation. Bevel tools can be used to check the composite profile of the end of a pipe or ‘bevel’. The product range also includes special purpose tools for measuring every dimensional aspect of a pipe, including straightness, end squareness, open and closed gap HiLo, girth weld and ovality. OMS also provides R&D tools and bespoke products to suit customers’ specific project requirements.

OMS offers services based on its groundbreaking laser measurement tools. The Internal Weld Scanning Tool inspects the internal size and shape of girth welds on pipes that are destined for use in deep-sea, subsea oil and gas applications. The OMS Automatic Pipe Checker™ tool forms the basis of a suite of services in pipe end dimensioning and analysis of pipe dimensions.
