Bevel Tool

Client Requirements
A critical element in the successful welding of pipes is the composite profile of the pipe end or the ‘bevel’. The profile consists of a ‘land’, a ‘radius’ and an angled bevel. The dimensions of the land and its depth, as well as the angle of the bevel must be within a tight tolerance.

Solution
OMS’ Bevel Pipe CheckerTM tool provides a consistent, accurate method of measuring the three key features at the push of a button. The tool uses accurate dial gauges to perform measurements, which are logged on a PC in a user-friendly report that enables the bevel stage to be documented for QA purposes.

The Bevel Pipe CheckerTM tool is operated by placing it on the end of the pipe and then releasing the land thickness gauge. A spirit bubble is mounted on the tool, which enables the user to rotate the tool from 4 to 12 different positions.

Once in position, the operator simply presses the button once in order to log the three different measurement results for that position. If any measurements are out of specification, the software indicates this via a red light; otherwise a green light indicates that the bevel is within specification.
