Closed Gap HiLo Tool
Client Requirements
When welded, SCRs and other fatigue-sensitive pipes require a very small internal mismatch in geometry known as a HiLo gap, which is typically less than 0.5mm. Any measurements taken should therefore be accurate to at least 0.5mm. In the past, measurement tools have offered poor repeatability and accuracy and required a two-step process.
Solution
OMS Pipe CheckerTM Closed Gap HiLo Tool solves these accuracy and repeatability issues and is faster to use than existing methods. The tool is designed for use with automatically welded pipe and measures the HiLo at the bottom of J-prepped pipes.
The tool uses a standard digital micrometer to measure the HiLo mismatch in one accurate (to 0.05mm), repeatable step, which eliminates human error. By using standard digital gauges, the tool is simple to operate and familiar to inspectors. The verification stand enables the user to set up and calibrate the tool before and after use.
Magnetic and non-magnetic versions are available. The magnetic unit enables adjustments and reading values to be carried out without holding the tool.
Both versions incorporate an LED light, which ensures that the user can see that the blade tips are in contact with the bevel in the correct location.
