Bevel Tool

A critical element in the successful welding of pipes is the composite profile of the end of the pipe or the “bevel” for short. A common bevel profile for mechanised welding is the ‘J-prep’ profile which consists of a “land” a “radius” and an angled bevel, as illustrated below.

Closed Gap HiLo Tool

When welded, SCRs and other fatigue-sensitive pipes require a minimal HiLo gap, typically less than 0.5mm. Therefore, measurements should be accurate to at least 0.05mm. In the past, measurement tools have offered poor repeatability and accuracy and required a two-step process. OMS has developed a tool that solves these accuracy and repeatability issues.

End Hooking Tool

The End Hooking Tool measures an oil or gas pipe end for out-of-straightness. Pipes that are not straight can cause problems in the pipeline, particularly for welders. The End Hooking Tool provides operators with a means to measure the out-of-straightness of the end of an oil or gas pipe prior to pipelay or welding.

End Squareness Tool

The End Squareness Tool measures the squareness of oil and gas pipes. Pipes with out-of-square ends cause problems for pipeline welders, particuarly when used in the J-lay process. The End Squareness Tool provides operators with a means to measure the end squareness of an oil or gas pipe prior to welding.

Girth Weld Tool

The tool is designed to be used on the outer wall of the pipe and is primarily designed to measure after the weld has been ground off, flush to the surface of the pipe. Normally, the tool would be used to check that grinding operations have not removed too much material from the weld.

Pipe Straightness Tool

Pipes are never absolutely straight. Bends in pipes can be caused in manufacture, during delivery, welding or during the straightening process after spooling. The importance of any kinks or bends will depend on the end use of the pipe in question. In the area of pipeline construction (spoolbase, welding, drilling risers and drilling) tolerances are critical.
