Manifa, Saudi Arabia

The Manifa oil field, owned and operated by Saudi Aramco, is a series of large, shallow-water reservoirs in Saudi Arabia. OMS was contracted to provide pipe measurement, fit-up and inspection services onshore at Saudi Aramco’s APCO coating yard and offshore on the Castoro II vessel. We measured and inspected thousands of carbon steel pipes that were internally and externally coated with fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE), providing fit-up analysis for different scenarios. The onshore test phase involved measuring pipes pre- and post-coating, providing analysis of any changes to the pipes’ out-of-roundness. .At all stages, project tolerances were tight and success depended on highly accurate measurement. OMS provided remote fit-up analysis on the pipe supply barges, which improved overall efficiency and kept project CAPEX down. We completed a company verification program for our equipment which challenged the integrity of our measurements, this was achieved with no contests.

Project experience includes:

  • Pipe end measurement - 42” (1066.8mm) carbon steel FBE-coated pipe

  • Data capture and analysis

  • SmartFit™ - pipe fit-up services included random selection random rotation, random selection best rotation and best sequence best rotation

  • Onshore testing at APCO coating yard providing before and after measurement and analysis of any OOR changes

  • Company verification program
