Better quality welds and stronger pipelines
Bevelling is an integral part of the engineering process, essential to achieving a high quality weld. Understanding bevel geometry significantly increases weld quality, making pipelines that are stronger, safer and last longer.
The OMS Bevel360 bevel measurement system uses laser measurement to provide the most comprehensive bevel information available on the market today. With 360º laser measurement of all common bevel types and a rapid go/no go indicator, the Bevel360 eliminates doubt about bevel compliance and can increase productivity. Effective, user-friendly BevelPro software offers green or red go/no go indication, with an amber signal to show bevel tolerances are being approached.
The system reduces cut-outs and burn-through, and can be integrated in-line with customer facilities. It has been used extensively on major global energy projects including Ichthys II, Sepia and NFPS.
Success at Ichthys II
Mathieu Lancien, Principal Materials Engineer, Ichthys II: “Congratulations to the McDermott, Butting, OMS, PIH, Remacut, WASCO, and ShawCor teams on completing safely the INPEX Phase 2a double jointing scope in PTMI Batam, Indonesia. More than 2000 joints welded, inspected and coated with exceptional quality and unprecedented production rates for CRA pipelines.
OMS Bevel360 Mk2
OMS will soon be launching the Bevel360 Mk2, which delivers all the functionality of the Mk1 system but enhanced by many years of use in global energy projects.
New features include:
Enhanced, more accurate algorithm
Capable of analysing a wider range of pipe geometries
Redesigned laser head reduces spurious readings caused by misalignment and reflective surfaces
Improved battery life
Simplified rotational drive and more robust encoder
