Low-profile laser measures stacked pipes 40mm apart

OMS releases Autotool with ultra low-profile laser that can measure pipes stacked as closely as 40mm

The latest addition to OMS’s hugely successful Autotool laser measurement system is a low-profile laser that allows closely stacked pipes to be measured accurately without being de-racked. Pipe OD measurements can be taken in the pipe stack with just a 40mm clearance. Customers are provided with the full range of data they need to optimise fit-up without having to move their pipes, thus improving efficiency and streamlining installation. The tool has already dramatically reduced pipe handling on several key projects.

Already successfully deployed on major global energy projects, the new system can measure coated and stacked pipes with no need for de-racking. Production rates of up to 100 pipes per day are achievable, depending on project specifications. Following measurement, pipes can be grouped, sequenced and fitted up. as per usual OMS capabilities, with ‘golden’ pipe selected for critical sections.

Paul Eagle, OMS Sales Director, said, ‘Accurate pipe measurement leads to better fit-up and stronger welds, which results in more efficient installation, longer lasting pipelines and improved safety. The introduction of our new Autotool with ultra low-profile laser has helped clients save money and refine processes even further by allowing them to measure pipes without moving them from the stack. They receive the usual comprehensive laser profile data, including pipe grouping, sequencing and ‘golden’ selection for critical sections without having to spend time relocating their pipes.’
