Successful bending trial in Indonesia
OMS recently carried out laser mapping and visual inspection of mechanically lined 261mm pipes before and after a full-scale reeling simulation. The project took place at our client’s facility in Batam, Indonesia and included inspection and measurement of six off strings before and after reeling, plus inspection and measurement of one string at the intermediate stage.
OMS operators were deployed to the project site, where they used our Sliding Head Autotool to record measurements at various depths to evaluate radius and out-of-roundness around the pipe’s circumference. They also conducted a visual inspection via camera and video. We provided reports that compared ID and out-of-roundness at the pre- and post-reeling stage in graph and heat map form.
Middle East Regional Head, Marcus Smiles, said, ‘Carrying out bending trials before reeling pipes means that operators can identify and resolve any potential issues before the laying stage. In this project, our team provided our client with reliable information on the condition of their pipes, which meant they could proceed to the reeling stage with confidence.’
